I remember the very first time I walked into Mälardalens Högskola's library and was blown away by this massive mobile hanging from the ceiling. I remember exclaiming," omg! look! a mobile!," and all of my friends replying,"what? oh yeeaaa... never noticed that before!" How can people not notice such a large piece of artwork staring you in the face? Or maybe I'm the only one who has my mobile radar turned on and therefore notice mobiles everywhere.. Nah.
So then I was extremely pleased when Erik and I were able to fit in this shoot today of this gorgeous mobile made by 'Clark'. I tried to dig up some history and do some research about the artist, but nothing turned up unfortunately. This piece was interesting to shoot because for once I couldn't position the mobile myself or blow on it to get it in the correct position (believe me I tried).
It was really interesting to be able to study the mobile even from afar. Since my ultimate dream is to make mobiles on this grand a scale myself someday, this mobile was excellent to study to see how to go about making such a large piece. As you can see in the different pictures, a lot of hardware and heavy cables are needed to keep this heavy mobile up. Maybe the techniques aren't entirely different from what I use now, but making mobiles this big will definitely come along with learning new skills for my craft.
Now I just need a nice big glass workshop to hang these beauties.
