Here we have a cute little dragonfly critter. I can really imagine him buzzing around a flower garden on a hot summer's night. I would love to have shot him outside during summertime on top of flowers, but as this is Sweden during winter, all we have is snow outside. Hence the white sheet in the background. Hopefully I can find something nicer for a background next time.
Since this is the second 'critter' order I've received, I've decided to start a 'critter line'- or mobiles that are smallish and take 1-2 hours to make. More ideas for other critters are most welcome.
I chose to make the wings out of wire because I noticed while researching that dragonflies' wings are mostly transparent. Therefore I made the tail more mobile and added colored petals there instead. The main trouble I had with this guy was figuring out how to attach the wings to the body. The wings are much heavier than the body so I put the balance loop between the two. However this gave the wings free range to move a lot, and the dragonfly ended up looking awkward since they would end up far to one side of the body. I fixed this by adding one more loop at the very front of the wings to keep them in place. If you notice, the main body wire balances so that it passes right through the middle of this loop.
