Here's my version of a Chinese dragon head in wire. It was also a Christmas present to a special guy. I started him about a week before Christmas because somehow I thought I could spit out a dragon head in 2 days. It was finished 2 months later, but loved nonetheless. Honestly the hardest part was delivering the dragon to his new home. For some reason I got some funny looks while riding the bus with him. He now hangs in a corner and guards his new master's apartment.
Sometimes I like to challenge myself with really hard projects. An idea for something awesome pops into my head and I'm like "wow- I have to bring that into existence!!" Too bad the idea to make the rest of the body came to mind. Hopefully that will be finished before next Christmas... Continue reading for more pics...
I won't lie. I did not enjoy making this head. However he turned out great, so I'm content. I didn't want too many wire fastenings because I thought it would make the head messier looking, so therefore the head for the most part is made from one long single piece of wire. All of the 'frills' throughout the beard and eyes are cutout from thick gold and silver paper. They were then threaded onto the wire and shaped to give the beard a rippling effect. The single wire gives the head clean lines, but it also made him really annoying to work with. Most of the time I had a shapeless blob with wire trying to poke my eyes out. This project seriously made me consider getting safety goggles for future projects.
In the last pic you can see me helping out with the lighting. Shoots are fun!
