Our trip to Prague was AMAZING to say the very least. We were lucky enough to be able to stay in an old section of town called Malarstrana. The neighborhood was close enough to the centre, however far enough to still have restaurants and cafes which weren't too touristy. Our very first day there, we stumbled upon this hanging horse sculpture in a random shopping mall. Even though our trip wasn't focused on art or sculpture hunting (which yes, these trips usually are), we ran across some interesting finds anyways. Besides the hanging horse, the marble and stone sculptures were limitless across buildings, bridges, and scattered throughout the parks.
The one gallery that we did make a point to visit was called the MeetFactory. It was a bit far out of the way, but the exhibition of the hanging metal pieces was right up my alley. The installation consisted of ferris wheel like metal sculptures which were suspended from the ceiling by rigging wires. Each circular structure was constructed the same way, however each had several platforms which could be rotated and therefore placed in a unique way. This allowed the artist to place more objects on the structures. I also really enjoyed the environment which the installation was in. The metal structures were surrounded by white walls, which allowed them to be the focal pieces. However, if you look up, you see all of the exposed wooden rafters, which I thought complemented the installation quite nicely.
The rest of our time in Prague included visiting markets, such as the one below by the water. By morning, this place was filled with vendors selling fresh produce, delicious pastries, homemade wines, and savoury snacks. By night, it turned in to a place where people sat by the water drinking wine and all of the boats transformed into pubs with delicious beers and local music.
To sum it up, Prague was a city of the very old and the very new, which appeased every one of our senses... and we will definitely be visiting again.
